Old Fort Golf Course Earns National Renovation Recognition

​Golf Inc. magazine recently recognized Old Fort Golf Course with a Third Place finish in its annual renovation awards. The article highlighted the City of Murfreesboro’s $1.4 million project, designed by Watermark Golf/Nathan Crace and constructed by Wadsworth Golf Construction. The renovation focused on long-term sustainability, improved playability, and enhanced practice facilities.

Upgrades included:

  • Restoration of greens to their original size and conversion to Prizm Zoysia

  • Refined contours to expand pin placements and spread wear

  • Redesigned bunkers built for better strategy and easier maintenance

  • An expanded driving range that allows golfers to practice with drivers​

Golf Inc. emphasized the strong teamwork behind the project and the focus on balancing environmental and economic sustainability.

Old Fort Golf Club is an 18-hole public facility owned and operated by the City of Murfreesboro. The par-72 course sits along the Stones River and borders the historic Civil War earthen fort at Fortress Rosecrans. Following recent renovations, Old Fort now stretches to 7,214 yards from the back tees, while the forward tees play 5,002 yards, making the course accessible and enjoyable for golfers of all abilities. With six sets of tees and a layout known for both challenge and playability, Old Fort is regarded as one of Tennessee’s premier public courses.

A wonderful golf experience

Old Fort hosts a number of championship events such as Collegiate Tournaments, USGA Boys and Girls Junior Amateur Qualifiers, Tennessee Golf Association, and Tennessee PGA Section tournaments. Come and enjoy a wonderful golf experience with beautiful antebellum landscapes located within the heart of Murfreesboro.
